Peñíscola is the scene for several important cultural events of international scale. |

• The year begins with the “Ciudad de Peñíscola”Award of Short Stories, whose jury is made up of prestigious members from the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language, and to which works from over 20 countries are submitted. • At the beginning of the summer Peñíscola, which has been the setting for great films such as Anton Mann's "El Cid" or García Berlanga's "Calabuch", is for one week the capital of Spanish cinema with the International Comedy Film Festival. • August, the International Festival of Ancient and Baroque Music takes place, where top-level celebrities attend. Other festivals in Peñíscola are: • January 17th, festivities in honour to San Antonio Abad (St Anthony the Great). • By the end of February - the carnivals (during three days) • Sunday after Easter Sunday - the pilgrimage to the St. Antoni Hermitage (situated approximately 2km. from Tierra de Irta • In May - the St Isidore Feast (patron saint of farmers), open-air dances and amateur bullfights with young bulls take place. • By the end of June – the St Peter Feast (patron saint of fishermen) open-air dances and amateur bullfights with young • The most important festival takes place on the night of September 7th, in honour of Virgen de la Ermitana (the town's patron saint). The most remarkable features of this celebration consist in "LES DANSES", which combine dances, music, game activities, fireworks and rites. 'Les Danses' are composed of different groups of "dansants" (dancers), "llauradores" (farmers), "cavallets" (horses), Moors and Christians. • By the end of September - the Classical Music Concert Programme is held in the spectacular setting of the castle’s Gothic Hall.
